We sat down with JEVS Care at Home (JCAH) Area Director Neysha Birdsong, to talk about what brought her to home care, what families should know when comparing care options, and what she’s most excited about at JEVS.
1) What first drew you to working in home care?
I wanted to be part of an organization that truly cared about its clients and caregivers—not one where people were treated like a number. I wanted to work somewhere that valued the person behind the care, listened to families and caregivers, and believed in making a real difference.
I’ve worked in different areas of home care, including case management, payroll and billing, operations, business development, and even owning and operating home-care services. Those experiences gave me a strong understanding of what families, caregivers, and organizations need.
Coming to JEVS Care at Home has allowed me to bring all of those experiences together and focus on building strong teams, improving operations, and making sure our clients receive the care they deserve.
2) Was there a moment or experience in your career that changed how you think about caring for people?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that behind every schedule, authorization, and number is a real person and family trusting us.
Sometimes people don’t need another process—they need someone to listen, communicate, and advocate for them. That has really shaped how I lead.
I always remind myself and my team: if we wouldn’t want it for our own family, we shouldn’t accept it for someone else’s.
3) What do you think families most often misunderstand about home care, and how does JEVS Care at Home approach it differently?
I think people sometimes see home care as simply someone coming into the home to help with daily activities. It’s so much more than that.
Home care gives people the opportunity to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes while giving families peace of mind.
At JEVS Care at Home, we look at the whole picture. It’s not just about filling a shift. It’s about the client, the family, the caregiver, communication, consistency, and making sure the right support is in place.
4) When a family is comparing home-care options, what’s one thing you want them to know about how JEVS Care at Home approaches care differently?
I’d want families to know that they’re not just choosing a home-care provider—they’re choosing a team.
I understand how overwhelming home care can be, especially when families are navigating services, schedules, authorizations, and caregivers.
We want to make that process easier and make sure families know they have people they can turn to. What I really appreciate about JEVS Care at Home is that we combine our mission of caring for people with accountability. We care, but we also hold ourselves to a high standard.
5) Tell us about what’s happening right now at JEVS Care at Home right now. What are you most excited for families to experience?
I’m really excited about the work we’re doing to strengthen our operations, improve EVV (Electronic Visit Verification) compliance, and increase communication across our teams.
We’re becoming more proactive looking at the information we have and asking, “What can we address today before it becomes a problem tomorrow?”
Whether it’s making sure clients receive their authorized hours, supporting caregivers, improving weekend coverage, or strengthening our referral relationships, there’s a lot of positive work happening.
What excites me most is that we’re not just focused on growth—we’re focused on healthy growth that improves the experience for our clients, families, and caregivers.
6) When you’re not at the office, what are some of the passions, interests, or activities you enjoy?
Outside of work, my biggest passion is my family. I love spending time with my children and creating memories with them. They keep me grounded.
I’m also passionate about community involvement and giving back. I enjoy bringing people together, connecting families with resources, and creating opportunities that make a difference.
I also have an entrepreneurial and creative side. I love coming up with ideas, building things, planning events, and turning ideas into something that can help people.
And I try to make time for myself to work out, focusing on my wellness, and taking time to recharge. I’ve learned that you can’t pour into everyone else’s cup if you don’t take time to refill your own.
