This weekend is Memorial Day weekend, a well-deserved three-day holiday! It’s an opportunity for families to travel to the beach/shore or host a backyard BBQ–all signifying the start of summer.
But for all Americans, it is a day to honor and commemorate military personal who have served and died. Reaffirming the promise to not let their sacrifice be in vain. These great warriors filled their lives and sacrificed everything to ensure “we” as a nation sleep peacefully at night under the protective blanket of freedom.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19, many local observances have been canceled, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be innovative; place an American flag on the gravesite of an American military service member, hang the American flag outside your home, chalk your driveway with messages of thanks or “Proud to be an American”. And be sure to watch the National Memorial Day Concert on Sunday, May 24 at 8 on PBS. Plus, you get to wear red, white, and blue – could it get any better?
So on May 25th, be sure to take a break from whatever fun activities you are engaged in to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made to ensure we remain the land of the free.
