Philadelphia, PA – This holiday season most of us will be surrounded by loved ones, merrily shopping for gifts and generally savoring seasonal delicacies at parties. But what about the many shut-ins with no visitors and no family with whom to celebrate?
This year JEVS at Home, the largest non-profit home care provider, is bringing cheer, delivering comfort to dozens of our most vulnerable seniors. Based in the Northeast, the home care agency specializing in personal care assistance to more than 1,000 clients will cater to those who are bed-bound. Hoping to brighten spirits, 6th grade students from St. Eugene School in Clifton Heights assembled and gift wrapped baskets of cheer on December 12, 2016 at Delaware County Intermediate Unit located at 200 Yale Avenue in Morton, Pennsylvania, Delaware County. JEVS at Home employees, including CEO, Aurora Kripa will hand deliver care baskets during the day on December 19, 2016.
This community effort is in partnership with Jack’s Catering, Philadelphia, Second Melody, Morristown, NJ and Artcraft Promotional Concepts, Moorestown, NJ. The packages include warm fleece blankets, fruit, nonperishable foods and assorted gift cards. Kripa, said, “So many of the elderly in our community are in dire need of comfort and warmth. They are struggling financially and the holidays make their challenges more apparent and poignant”.
They are not alone. Experts say more than 26% of the total population in the five county region are in similar circumstances. Twelve percent are considered to be living in deep poverty—the highest rate in the United States.
