Studies show that an increasing number of our seniors do not speak English as their first language—or at all.
Just imagine if you were in a care facility in a country where no one spoke English. Being in a strange facility can be scary enough, but if you had no idea what was going on, it would make you more stressed—possibly making your health worse. Being vulnerable and not knowing what was happening to you would be terrifying.
At JEVS Care at Home, we employ several multi-lingual office staff members and caregivers. Languages supported include Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Albanian. With our vast language offerings, we are able to be a source of comfort and provide our legendary care services to non-English speaking clients for in-home care, long-term care or rehabilitation. We know that this is a valuable service for keeping our clients safe, engaged and informed, reducing the risk for readmission and complications.
Other benefits to using a multi-lingual caregiver include:
- Managing the care plan for both client and family members
- Serve as translators to communicate very important information from physicians who do not speak the language. Having a caregiver who can effectively and safely communicate with clients about health issues can be crucial.
- Clients express how happy they are to have someone who speaks their own language. We’ve found that using a few words or phrases can be helpful for recognizing when a client is in pain or has other needs.
- Understanding the client’s culture
At the end of the day, by having multi-lingual office staff and caregivers available to our clients, we are making a difference in the communities we serve. Don’t let a language barrier stop you or your loved one from great care. Please contact Patty Grace
