Every year during Halloween kids and adults look forward to dressing up, painting their faces, and going trick-or-treating. Candy corn, Skittles and large chocolate bars can put a damper on the day because they contain a large amount of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Consuming large amounts of this sugar is hard for the body to breakdown and eventually ends up being stored as fat.
Other side effects include headaches and stomach aches. To get into the Halloween spirit and avoid the sugar overload, Nurse Kim suggests trying these sweet alternatives in moderation:
- Fun-sized candy bars (1 or 2 servings at a time)
- Trail mix
- Mini-sized pretzels
- Apples
- Unreal Candy
