Marvet Khalil joined the JEVS at Home family in 2013. Unfortunately, her mother had suffered a stroke and, even though she was strong, the mobility in both her legs had been affected.
“My mother is a very strong woman. She couldn’t walk immediately after her stroke, but a few days later, she walked out of the hospital on her own,” Marvet explained as she recalled the event that had led her to become a JEVS at Home Caregiver.
Today, Marvet cares for her mother as a paid JAH Caregiver, fueled by the same strength that is so prevalent in her mother. In addition to caring for her mother, Marvet cares for her children and any neighbor who needs her help. “I can do anything,” Marvet explained. “I hear my name and I jump out in the street.”
This caring and determined attitude that shapes Marvet’s personality made her the perfect person to care for her mother. “When you give a lot, you get a lot,” Marvet said. “She took care of me when I was young so I take care of her now. She wants me around more than anyone else.”
